BLOG #8

First off, I love this book and it is my favorite so far.  It keeps me entertained.  Funny how it does that right?  When the book is about a game where two people try to kill each other to be the one on top.  This is what entertains humans today, violence, competition and drama.  We like to watch things like this and say, "Glad that's not me out there."  It scares me a little bit thinking that one day a game like this will air on the TV for entertainment and people will watch it because it is not them out there fighting for their lives.  It may sound bad, but the movies and TV shows I like to watch are ones that have a lot of drama, violence, and action.  I love action movies with guys fighting one another and all that.  I just couldn't tell you why I enjoy movies like that and why that is the case for a lot of other people as well.  The SAW movies, I find it so interesting how the characters die in those movies because it is so creative but at the same time it scares me that those thoughts are in someone's mind.  I feel like society is going to keep wanting more and more of these movies and TV shows because it is what entertains us and that is why these shows get so much money, because we continue to watch them and I do not think we are going to stop anytime soon.

  1. I agree with the "Glad its not me" because I admit that I say that, I even said that in class one day. I even agree with you of being scared that these things came from someones mind. I have a friend who does horror movies and I have seen some of them and I am just like oh.. wow.. these are the kinds of things that you come up with? is there something wrong with you?

  2. Do you think something is wrong with you because you like these movies or the people that create them? Do you think it’s the media and marketing jolting you so much to blame for us not being affected by these movies? I personally don’t like them but my 16 well 17 on Monday Daughter loves scary movies and I just have never understood it, my husband and I don’t. We are all individuals and react differently. It does make you think why we care so much about watching people be killed and the action and violence behind it. I agree it’s a well written book but I pray we don’t have a show or realty TV show such as the hunger games and that it never truly because part of our human nature. I still haven’t figured out in our human nature how we can take a life. I have a good friend that was in and under allot of fire action in Iraq 2 tours ago watched a friend die in front of him and had to run for cover and held another friend they were in a shoot out and he has no clue how many people he killed. He has serious mental health because he awakes in night mares and it will haunt him the rest of his life. To take another’s and or to watch others die in real life doesn’t sound like a great thing so why do we like watching it played out in books and movies?

  3. I honestly believe that there isn't anything wrong with the people that make up these things. I also don't believe that it is wrong that we think these things. The media has made us so accustom to these things that they don't seem abnormal anymore. If you really look deep into it our reality TV is a mild form of The Hunger Games. Sometimes I watch barbaric things and wonder why I am not disturbed by them, I believe it is because the media has mad it so normal to us.

  4. You're right, that is somewhat scary. But you're right, many people do enjoy them and that isn't about to change any time soon. I think one of the reasons we enjoy movies with action is because it keeps us on the edge of our seats, wondering what is going to happen next, not solely because of the violence and death. If a movie is about someone's day to day activities with nothing exciting going on, it would not succeed at all. I can't say that I think there will ever be any kind of show quite like the Hunger Games on TV but I agree that there are many shows that have similarities already on TV today. Good points Rachel, I like that you don't talk about society's obsession with violence but you talk about how you admittedly like it as well.
